Zoe Saldana, born June 19th, 1978, was the child of Asalia Nazario, along with Aridio Saldana. Her father is Dominican and her mother Puerto Rican. Her parents raised their daughter at home in Queens, New York. As she reached the age of 10 years old, she and her parents relocated to the Dominican Republic. They lived in the Dominican Republic for seven more years. In the Dominican Republic, Zoe discovered a keen desire to perform and started her studies at the highly regarded ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy in which she was taught ballet, as well as various other forms of dance. The instruction she received was not just a wonderful outlet for an energetic, eager child, but was also the best preparation for her eventual acting career as a professional.
